Multi-mission vessel, suited for deep space, far away from chain of command, where a ship needs a balance of science, speed, endurance, and tactical capabilities. An extremely expensive spacecraft; needs a large crew for full functional capabilities. Normally equipped with many science labs studying many different disciplines. In service for more than a decade, so systems reliability is relatively high. Very heavy ship, not as maneuverable as smaller ships. Designed for extremely long-range missions, it can be outfitted with sufficient living facilities to allow crew members to bring their families on the ship (possibly leading to greater crew morale, especially on long-term missions). Can be outfitted with extensive crew amenities.
